Welcome to today’s journaling exploration. As November draws to a close, I’m sharing a forward-looking prompt that appears in both Write Your Way and The Art of Journaling. This reflection helps us mindfully transition into the month ahead.
Why This Prompt Matters
In both of my books, I emphasize the power of intentional transitions. Setting clear intentions helps us navigate busy seasons with purpose rather than getting swept along by external demands and expectations.
Today’s Prompt
“What intentions do I want to set for December?”
Notice that this prompt asks about intentions rather than just goals. Intentions encompass not only what we want to do, but how we want to be and feel as we move through the month ahead.
Let Me Share an Example
Here’s how I might respond to this prompt:
“For December, I intend to maintain inner peace amid outer activity. This means protecting my morning quiet time, even during busy days. I want to approach holiday preparations with joy rather than obligation, choosing activities that truly matter to me and my loved ones. My intention is to stay present—to fully experience each moment rather than rushing toward the next task. I want to create space for both celebration and reflection, honoring the dual nature of this season as we close one year and prepare for another. Above all, I intend to approach this month with an open heart, ready to both give and receive the gifts of presence, connection, and joy.”
Making This Prompt Work for You
Consider these aspects:
- How do you want to feel this December?
- What practices will support your wellbeing?
- What boundaries need to be set?
- How will you create meaning amid busyness?
- What balance do you wish to strike?
A Deeper Reflection
December often carries multiple layers of significance—holiday celebrations, year-end reflections, and preparation for the new year ahead. Setting clear intentions helps us navigate these layers with greater awareness and purpose.
Your Journey Begins
Take time now to explore your intentions for December. What qualities do you want to cultivate? What experiences do you want to create? How might you maintain alignment with your values during this busy season?
Remember, intentions are not rigid goals but rather guiding lights that help illuminate our path forward.
